Data Center to Cloud: Why Hybrid Traffic Deserves a Private Path

Data Center to Cloud: Why Hybrid Traffic Deserves a Private Path

Hybrid architectures move a lot of data between your racks and the cloud. Running that over the public internet adds risk and variability. There is a better way.

Hybrid is here to stay

Few organisations run everything in one place. Core systems often stay in data centers or colocation, while analytics, new applications and burst capacity live in the cloud. The connection between them carries database queries, file transfers, backups and API calls every second of the day.

The internet path problem

By default, that traffic often travels over the public internet through a VPN. It works, but performance depends on routing decisions and congestion beyond your control. Large transfers compete with everything else at peak hours.

Private on-ramps

Major cloud providers offer direct-connect services that let you connect privately into their networks at specific locations. Peer1IX Data Center to Cloud services deliver a private path from your rack or edge site to those on-ramps.

What changes

  • Latency becomes predictable, which matters for chatty applications.
  • Throughput is consistent, so backups and migrations finish on time.
  • Exposure is reduced, because traffic does not traverse the public internet.

Design tips

  • Use two connections for resilience, ideally to different on-ramp locations.
  • Run BGP so failover is automatic.
  • Size for your largest regular transfers, not just average traffic.
