Interconnection used to mean cabling
Every time a company needed to connect to a new cloud, partner or data center, it ordered a new physical circuit or cross-connect. Each one took weeks and added a recurring cost. Over time, racks filled up with single-purpose links.
The hub model
A Virtual Connectivity Hub replaces that pattern. You connect one physical port to the Peer1IX fabric. Over that port, you create virtual circuits — each a separate VLAN with its own bandwidth — to any destination on the fabric.
What you can connect to
- Your other data centers and edge sites.
- Cloud on-ramps.
- Partners, suppliers and service providers on Peer1IX.
- The public peering exchange.
Why it is faster
Because the physical connection already exists, a new destination is a configuration change, not a construction project. Connections can be ready in a fraction of the time a new circuit takes.
Flexible bandwidth
Each virtual circuit has its own bandwidth that can be changed independently. A migration project can get a temporary boost; a quiet partner link can stay small.
When it makes sense
- You connect to more than two or three external destinations.
- Your needs change frequently.
- You want to reduce physical cross-connects and their cost.
