Connecting Branch Offices to Multiple Clouds via a Cloud Router

Branches need to reach SaaS, multiple clouds and the data center. A cloud router at a nearby hub gives them short, policy-controlled paths.

Branches have changed

Branch staff today use cloud applications from several providers. Sending their traffic to a central data center before it reaches the cloud adds latency and consumes expensive WAN capacity.

A regional hub model

Branches connect — by local circuit or SD-WAN tunnel — to the nearest Peer1IX location. At that hub, Peer1ix Cloud Router holds routes to every cloud, the data center and other branches.

What it looks like

  • Branch → local hub (short path).
  • Hub → cloud on-ramps (private virtual circuits).
  • Hub → data center (private link).
  • Hub → other hubs (fabric).

Policy and security

The Cloud Router controls which branches reach which networks. Add FWaaS at the hub for inspection.

Scaling

New branches connect to their nearest hub and inherit the same design. New clouds are one more connection on the router.
