Why IPv6 now
Major Indian mobile and broadband networks carry a large share of traffic over IPv6, and public clouds support it widely. Running dual stack across your hybrid network prepares you for a future with fewer IPv4 constraints.
Dual stack in practice
Keep IPv4 working while adding IPv6 to each connection. Applications can then use whichever is available.
Routing both families
BGP can carry IPv6 routes either on separate sessions over IPv6 addresses or as an additional address family on existing sessions (multiprotocol BGP). Peer1ix Cloud Router supports both approaches.
Address planning
IPv6 space is plentiful, so plan for clarity: assign a /48 per site or environment and /64s per subnet. Document the plan from day one.
Don’t forget security
Firewall rules and route filters must cover IPv6 as well as IPv4. Gaps are common when IPv6 is enabled as an afterthought.
Test
Verify reachability and performance over IPv6 for each application before relying on it.
