SD-WAN Hubs at the Edge: Shorter Paths for Every Branch

SD-WAN Hubs at the Edge: Shorter Paths for Every Branch

Terminating SD-WAN tunnels at regional edge hubs rather than headquarters makes branch traffic faster and the WAN simpler.

How SD-WAN changed the branch

SD-WAN lets branches use broadband and mobile links, encrypting traffic in tunnels to a hub. It lowers WAN costs and simplifies management.

The hub question

Where the tunnels terminate matters. If every branch in India tunnels to a single hub in one city, branches far from that city pay a latency penalty on every connection.

Virtual hubs at the edge

With Peer1ix Virtual Edge, you can run SD-WAN gateway instances in several regional edge locations. Each branch connects to its nearest hub over a short internet path.

From hub to everything else

The virtual hub sits on the Peer1IX fabric. From there, traffic reaches clouds via private on-ramps, data centers via private links and other regions via the fabric.

Operational simplicity

Hubs are deployed as software, so adding a new region is quick and does not require shipping hardware.
