The legacy hub
Many organisations built their hybrid networks around routers in the main data center. Every cloud connection and branch terminated there. As more workloads move to the cloud, that hub remains — even if the data center itself is shrinking.
The risk
The data center becomes a single point of failure for traffic that no longer needs to pass through it. Hardware ages and needs refreshing. Space and power costs continue.
A virtual hub on the fabric
Peer1ix Cloud Router can take over the hub role. Clouds, branches and remaining data center networks connect to it through virtual circuits. Routing happens in the Peer1IX network.
A phased plan
- Build the Cloud Router and connect it to one cloud and to the data center.
- Move one inter-cloud flow to the new path and test.
- Migrate remaining cloud connections one by one.
- Shift branch connectivity.
- Retire the old routers when nothing depends on them.
Benefits
Less hardware, fewer dependencies on a single building, and a network that matches where your workloads actually run.
