Planning Port Upgrades Without Downtime

Moving from a 10G to a 100G port is routine — if you plan it. A step-by-step approach that keeps traffic flowing.

Timing

Start planning when peaks consistently exceed 60–70% of capacity. Upgrades involve new optics and possibly new cross-connects, so leave time.

Parallel build

Ask for the new port to be provisioned alongside the existing one. Install optics and patch the new cross-connect.

Move services step by step

  1. Bring up new route server sessions on the new port.
  2. Shift bilateral peering sessions.
  3. Move private VLANs and virtual circuits.
  4. Confirm traffic is flowing on the new port.

Verify

After each step, check BGP sessions, routes and traffic graphs. Keep the old port available to roll back.

Decommission

Once everything is stable on the new port, shut the old one and arrange its removal.

Our team coordinates upgrades with you to keep disruption to zero. Plan an upgrade.
